The RYA Basic Navigation and Safety course provides an introduction to navigation
and safety for anyone new to boating including: sailors, power boat skippers, sea
anglers, divers and boat masters. It is also useful for experienced dinghy and keelboat
sailors and inshore racers. The course will introduce and provide a knowledge of
such subjects as: Charts and publications, safety, buoyage, tidal awareness, basic
navigation and pilotage, rules of the road, electronic navigation, anchoring, weather
forecasting and passage planning.
Course Aim: To give a basic awareness and understanding of navigation and safety
for mariners.
Duration: The course lasts 16 hours and can be taught over 2 days or in a series
of shorter sessions.
Experience: No previous experience or knowledge is required .
Minimum Age: There is no minimum age to take the course.
Costs: Individual on course £200.
