Devon Powerboating
Powerboat & Jet Ski Training is undertaken in the delightful setting of Plymouth
Sound and the adjoining coastline. Although offshore this unpredictable stretch of
water offers a wide range of sea conditions, Plymouth Sound provides protection in
even the fiercest of gales allowing training to continue throughout most of the year.
Additionally, the abundance of navigational marks and consistently high levels of
traffic movement (commercial, leisure and Royal Navy Warships) allows Rule of the
Road considerations to be fully developed. The area also offers a host of small bays
to explore and boat handling challenges that develop the skills of beginners and
advanced boat handlers alike.
Our programmed courses have a ratio of 1 instructor to 3 students for the sea based
elements. However, we also offer the option of 1 to 1 training where you enjoy the
benefits of a dedicated instructor for all elements of your course. Alternatively,
the training can be undertaken in your own boat with a maximum number of 3 students.
Pricing for all of these options is detailed in our price list.
International Certificate of Competence (ICC)
There is an increasing requirement for helmsman, either using there own boat or wishing
to charter one in international or European waters, to hold an ICC. It is currently
not required in UK waters. The simplest way to gain your ICC for vessels up to 10m,
is by successfully completing an RYA Powerboat Level 2 Course and then sending a
copy of it, together with your photo, to the RYA who will issue your ICC. The RYA
charges non-members a fee for this service.
